A .704 PERCUSSION PATTERN 1864 4TH TYPE EAST INDIA GOVERNMENT BRUNSWICK RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1864, with 30in. barrel rifled with two grooves, struck with Tower proofs at breech (faint) fitted with bayonet bar set back 2 1/4in. from muzzle with central locking slot, blade front-sight and leaf rear-sights, borderline engraved Pattern 1853 type lock bearing the Crown V.R. cypher on the tail and '1864 / TOWER' to the centre and the 'I' broad arrow mark for India, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock, with scroll triggerguard and large rectangular patchbox, worn overall with erosion around breech area, rod shortened

Provenance: The 4th Type E.I.G. Brunswick rifle was an upgrade of the earlier Type 3 Brunswick, the only difference being the fitting of the standard P53 Enfield lock in place of the earlier Lovell's style lock. Rifles of this pattern were produced for issue to Sikh regiments fighting on the North West Frontier
