A 16-BORE PERCUSSION IRON-BARRELLED BLUNDERBUSS WITH SPRING BAYONET SIGNED BARRATT, BURTON ON TRENT, no visible serial number,
circa 1850, with twist iron 19in. two-staged barrel of probable earlier origin, the top marked 'BURTON ON TRENT' and mounted with a triangular sprung bayonet with concave sides released via a catch on the tang, engraved breech-block with moulded nipple-well, borderline and scroll engraved back-action lock signed 'W.B. BARRATT', dolphin headed hammer, walnut full-stock chequered at the wrist and with shotgun style butt (repairs above and forwards of lock), iron furniture and brass tipped ebony ramrod
Provenance: William Butler Barratt was listed as working under his own name at 48 High Street Burton On Trent between 1849-54, whereupon the signature changes to '& Son', eventually ceasing trading in 1870
