AN EARLY 38-BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL SIGNED DIOMEDE ADIRENT WITH LAZARO LAZARINO BARREL, no visible serial number,
Italian circa 1690, with carved and moulded 15 1/2in. barrel, the moulded sighting plane signed 'LAZARO LAZARINO' and terminating in a reversed tear-drop at muzzle, a central stylised flower carving and a Romanesque bust at breech, scroll engraving to the bordered side-panels, plain squared solid top-tang affixed from below, rounded and curved lock with moulded borders and a foliate flourish at tail and signed below the moulded shallow pan 'DIOMEDE ADIRENT', carved and moulded swan-necked cock with Romanesque bust fixing screw (age fractures forming at neck), walnut full-stock with carved mouldings around the furniture, pear-shaped grip with long-spurred moulded iron butt-cap with central Romanesque bust repeated on the trigger guard bow, pierced and carved terminals to the lower tang and finial, pierced neo-classical sideplate, turned ramrod thimbles and original ramrod with engraved iron wedge tip, some wear and loss to fine detail throughout
