30in. nitro barrels, tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.' (possibly refreshed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, bore dimensions marginal and wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, incorporating J. Purdey patent push-forward thumbhole underlever, patent no. 1104 of 1863, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, best bold acanthus scroll engraving with ornate bordering and fine decorative fences, brushed bright finish overall, 14 7/8in. highly-figured stock, weight 6lb. 4oz., in a brass-cornered leather case with Holland & Holland labels
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in September 1897 for an "H. Buxton"
Built in 1897 for H. Buxton. Henry Edmund Buxton was born in 1844 and was a JP for Norfolk and Suffolk residing at Fritton in Yarmouth. He was a Colonel in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion the Norfolk Regiment. His brother. E.N.Buxton was a keen big game hunter who write various books on the subject.
