first year of production, 1853, with re-blued octagonal 7 1/2in. barrel (stripped of address, hairline crack at throat), bead fore-sight, London proofs, re-blued cylinder scrubbed of scene, blued open iron frame, brass small rounded trigger-guard and grip-straps (traces of plating), the heel engraved in script 'CAPT. J.L. BOLTON ROYL. ARTLY.' and smooth walnut grips, all matching numbers, some pitting under finish
Other Notes: Captain John Lawrence Bolton was a commander in the 3rd Company of the 4th Battalion of the Royal Artillery and served during the Indian Mutiny, being awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal.
