TAYLOR, BEVERLEY
A 16-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, no visible serial no,
circa 1820, with triple-staged 30 1/2in. barrel, the top-flat at breech signed in gothic script 'TAYLOR GUNMAKER BEVERLEY' (rubbed), engraving and twin gold bands (losses) at breech, gold vent, border engraved lock signed 'TAYLOR' (refreshed), rounded stepped tail, roller frizzen, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture including scrolled grip lower tang, white metal oval escutcheons to wrist and to the twin barrel keys and period brass mounted ebony ramrod
Other Notes: This is almost certainly the product of William Taylor who operated in Beverley initially at Toll Gavel from 1813 and then from Market Place between 1822-1842. The business was continued by his daughter until 1857.
