circa 1865, with browned damascus 26in. barrels, broad flat top-rib signed 'JOHN LYELL UNION STREET ABERDEEN', dove-tailed bead fore-sight, folding four-leaf rearsight with platinum centre-lines, engraved bands at breech and scroll engraving at rib-end, fully engraved long top-tang, border and full scroll engraved back-action locks signed in scrolled banners 'JOHN LYELL', fully engraved carved and moulded hammers, sliding safes, figured walnut butt-stock chequered at the wrist, iron heel-plate with scroll engraved details, chequered raised pistol-grip tang, blued trigger-guard, plain triggers, scroll engraved swing under-lever, chequered walnut splinter fore-end (possible expert replacement) and eyelets for a sling, the whole retaining much apparently original finish with traces of colour
