A SCARCE 12-BORE PINFIRE SELF-EXTRACTING DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'GHAYE'S PATENT', serial no. 6499,
circa 1865, with fine damascus 29 3/4in. barrels sliding forwards on a fixed table, the top-rib signed 'COGSWELL & HARRISON 223 & 224 STRAND LONDON', scroll engraved action body, top-tang and back-action external hammer locks, the hammers drilled with apertures to capture the cartridge pins, the locks further signed in banners 'COGSWELL & HARRISON', chequered walnut straight hand stock, iron heel-plate, chequered walnut permanently attached splinter fore-end concealing the articulated barrel mechanism, the inside of the opening under-lever mechanism marked 'GHAYE PATENT' together with his trademark
