A FINE AND RARE 20-BORE FLINTLOCK SMOOTH-BORE COACHING-CARBINE WITH SPRUNG BAYONET, no visible serial number,
circa 1805, with browned 14in. twist iron side-by-side barrels, the top rib signed 'SYKES OXFORD', the muzzle fitted with a triangular form flick bayonet locking by a catch approximately half way along the top rib, a further redundant catch at breech possibly for an optional longer bayonet now absent, platinum line and touch-holes, fully engraved broad top-tang with shallow sighting groove, flat curved bevel-edged dip-tailed border engraved locks signed 'SYKES', engraved cocks with sliding safes behind, martial trophies engraved to the tails, border engraved roller frizzens and rainproof pans, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece, engraved iron furniture (rubbed) and captive iron under-barrel ramrod
