A JAPANESE 'KYU-GUNTO' OFFICER'S SWORD,
circa 1900, with plated 31in. blade of traditional form, full-length narrow fuller along the back edge, blinded cutting edge and false 'hamon', European style pierced brass hilt with florally decorated boat-shaped guard (traces of gilding), single turned down quillion, carved and moulded 'D' shaped knuckle-bow, stippled back-strap with chrysanthemum devices to the centre and with applied white-metal family 'mon' to backstrap, carved semi pistol-grip pommel and ribbed black grip with wire binding, complete with its polished iron scabbard
