A GOOD 14-BORE PERCUSSION CAPE-RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1855, with browned 29 1/2in. multi-groove rifled barrel combined with a smooth barrel for shot, the flat top-rib signed 'GEO. & JNO. DEANE, 46 KING WILLIAM ST. LONDON BRIDGE', dove-tailed white metal beaded fore-sight, rear-sight with one standing notch and four flush-folding leaves, border and shell engraving at breech, platinum vented plugs, fully scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'G. & J. DEANE' and additionally engraved with a bolting stag on the left lock and a pair of gamebirds on the right, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture including chequered pistol-grip spur to the lower tang and complete with its original brass mounted ebony ramrod, strong traces of original finish remaining
