A FINE .577-450 (M/H) SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING-RIFLE, MODEL 'MARTINI-HENRY SPORTER, serial no. E170,
circa 1890, with round blued 29 3/4in. tapering barrel, raised matted full-length sighting-rib signed in a panel forwards of the rear-sight 'W. RAWBONE CAPE TOWN' and in a further panel behind the rear-sight 'AMMUNITION .577-450', the left side of breech marked 'METFORD'S RIFLING', dove-tailed blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight with two flush folding leaves and a further standing notch, blued slab-sided action with broad border engraving, the centre of both sides signed 'W. RAWBONE' within a banner and the remaining background machine engraved safety catch and cocking indicator to right hand side, figured chequered pistol-grip butt-stock with machine engraved iron heel-plate, central trapdoor for oil-bottle (absent), colour-hardened under-lever with horn filler, blued and engraved trigger-guard bow, figured walnut chequered splinter fore-end with moulded and carved horn tip and blued eyelets for sling, the whole retaining the majority of its original blued finish and colour, some older small repairs at head
