A 14-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARREL SPORTING-GUN SIGNED GOOCH, no visible serial number,
circa 1810 with later percussion conversion, browned 32in octagonal to sixteen-sided to round barrel banded at the intersection, bead fore-sight, twin gold bands at breech, the top of breech-block signed 'GOOCH', carved and fenced snail with platinum plug, curved flat bevel edged lock with engraved border and round tail engraved with game birds and signed 'GOOCH' below the nipple, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (hairline crack forming along fore-end), shallow raised cheek-piece, iron furniture including square-backed guard, twin barrel keys and brass mounted ebony ramrod
Provenance: This gun is almost certainly the work of William Gooch, initially of Ipswich, Suffolk, later St Albans, Hertfordshire
