A .44 REMINGTON UPGRADED MODEL 1861 ARMY PERCUSSION REVOLVER OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR, CIRCA 1862, serial no. 10960,
with 8in. octagonal barrel, the top flat stamped in two lines 'PATENTED DEC 17 1861 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTON ILION N.Y.', fitted with a cone front-sight and New Model type loading lever, plain six shot cylinder with safety notches, solid frame and two-piece walnut grips the left grip with inspecting officers cartouche

Provenance: This interesting revolver is numbered in the Old Model 1861 serial range and has the correct patent legends stamped on the barrel for that model, but it has the New Model loading lever and cylinder. Due to faults with the Old Model 1861 many were upgraded and the last ones produced were fitted with the new modified loading levers and updated cylinders with safety notches
