A BEAUTIFUL AND ORNATE PRESENTATION OFFICER'S SWORD TO THE LANARKSHIRE ARTILLERY VOLUNTEERS,
dated 1862, with 34in. slightly curved single-edged nickel-steel blade with single fuller ending 11in. from the point, the last 11in. of the blade being double-edged, finely etched with foliate scroll-work, VR and crown royal cypher, with scroll-work, angel holding a bow and arrow, and a central presentation panel with the inscription 'PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN AND ADJUTANT KEATING BY HIS BROTHER OFFICERS AND A / FEW FRIENDS ON HIS RESIGNING THE ADJUTANCY OF THE BRIGADE L.A.V. NOVbr 19th 1862', ricasso marked 'PULLIN / Maker / LONDON', with brass 'PROVED' plug over, white metal hilt cast with scrolls and foliate design enclosing the union rose and thistle spray, black fish-skin grip bound with white metal wire, decorative cast back-strap and pommel, together with its (presumed) silver-plated brass scabbard with three deeply cast and chased white metal mounts with two suspension loops, small edge knock to the scabbard between the two loop-mounts
