A CASED .36 COLT LONDON 1851 NAVY PERCUSSION REVOLVER, serial no. 21242,
for 1855, with octagonal 7 1/2in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'ADDRESS COL. COLT LONDON', London proofs, open iron frame with traces of colour, roll engraved cylinder with intact safe pins, dome-headed London screws, iron grip-straps, smooth walnut one-piece grip and under-barrel rammer with traces of colour, all matching numbers (blued finish lost except in sheltered areas); together with an oak casing (possibly produced for campaign use and of heavy construction) accommodating the revolver, an original flask, cleaning rod, mould, nipple-key, cap-tin and spare mainspring, all probably original to this revolver
Provenance: There is a hand written note inside the case, acknowledging receipt of a previous letter, dated 1855 and signed 'Richmond' (identified as Charles Gordon Lennox, 5th Duke of Richmond)
