A UNITED STATES MODEL1840 AMERICAN CIVIL WAR NCO's DRESS SWORD BY AMES, dated 1864, with 32 in. single-edged steel blade fullered on each side, ricasso marked 'US / JH / 1864' to one side and 'AMES MFcCo / CHICOPEE / MASS' over, brass guard and hilt, grip bound with brass wire, together with its nickel-steel scabbard with decorated brass fittings, blade with some staining, scabbard with wear to the nickelling, dented near the throat and on the chape, 41 in. overall
