A GOOD VICTORIAN BOWIE or SPORTING KNIFE SIGNED A. DAVY, SHEFFIELD,
circa 1860, with 8in. plain blade of Bowie style retaining virtually all its original polish, false-edged for the last 5 1/8in., narrow ricasso signed 'A. DAVY, SPRING LANE SHEFFIELD', unusual cast oval spelter cross-guard, both sides with a raised decoration of dots and rosettes around the margin surrounding a further raised design of running vines, the faceted cast spelter hilt swelling at the pommel and with a raised decoration of ivy-leaves to the main faces with borders and geometrics to the remainder, complete with its red leather sheath embossed with gilded borders, the front with central gilt geometric and fitted with white metal throat and drag (drag with some dents, scabbard creased near tip and frog button absent from throat)
