A RARE WORLD WAR I / WORLD WAR II NAVAL PATTERN H3 MARK I N .455 REVOLVER AMMUNITION TRANSPORTATION CRATE, early 20th Century, official designation "Box, Ammunition, Small Arm, Pistol, Wood, with Tin Lining; for Naval Issue", with the 1894 redesigned semi-circular closing plate liner lid, 1903 wooden sliding lid tapered on both sides and naval short, leather-bound wire carrying handle, stamped with Broad Arrow and maker-mark of 'C&C' over-stamped with 'R C Ltd 1944' inspection/refurbishment mark and white 'GROSS' stencil indicating use during WWII, plus remains of green paper labels with a black 'VII' stamped over an oblong with three horizontal bars indicating used for .303 Mark VII cartridges held in 5-round chargers, small red square '6' paper government ownership labels and other marks including 'Cal.30' and a heavy black 'BLANK' on the lid, indicative of continued use post-war, interesting item with a lot of history, 11 in. x 7 in. x 8 1/4 in.
