* A CONTINENTAL 12mm PNEUMATIC BALL-RESERVOIR SPORTING AIR RIFLE, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
probably German circa 1775, with octagonal iron 22 15/16in. barrel (cleaned with some shallow frosting), moulded offset muzzle with applied bead fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with carved foot, plain bevel-edged lock with pointed tail and large external mainspring operating on an external cocking piece with sprung articulated safe, walnut handrail full-stock with mouldings alongside the ramrod channel and carved floral decoration in relief behind the top-tang and shallow raised cheek-piece, the underside of cheek-piece carved in the likeness of a mythical serpent, brass furniture with traces of gilding including skeletal sideplate and bronze ball reservoir mounted to the underside just forwards of the trigger guard, replacement ramrod
