A PAIR OF PERCUSSION 60-BORE TARGET PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1835, with reblued swamped octagonal 11 1/4in. barrels deeply rifled in seven grooves, the top-flats signed 'JOH. CONTRINER' (rubbed), shallow blade fore-sights on dove-tailed bases with decorative feet, standing notch rear-sights with additional folding leaf, false breeches, the top of the breech-blocks marked in relief 'CONTRINER' within a rectangular border, border engraved brushed bright bar-action locks with further engraved floral details, engraved slab-sided hammers, walnut half-stocks with full pistol-grips chequered to both sides within panels, flared flat-heeled pommels with engraved raised iron caps, engraved and spurred trigger guard bows, double set triggers and no provision for ramrods
