JOSEPH EGG, LONDON
A 15-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, serial no. 2440,
first quarter of the 19th century and possibly converted from flint, with browned twist 30 3/4in. barrels, the elevated top-rib signed 'JOSEPH EGG, PICCADILLY, LONDON' in script, bead fore-sight, engraved rib-end and borders to the breeches, platinum vented plugs, fully engraved top-tang inhabited by mythical serpents, flat border engraved clipped tail locks also engraved with feathered scrolls and serpents and signed 'JOSEPH EGG', broad straight flash-guards (possibly later), engraved dolphin-headed hammers, birdseye maple half-stock chequered at the wrist (loss forwards of left lock and to upper edges of fore-end, some age cracks and period inlets elsewhere), engraved iron furniture, grip safe (patent use number 122) to lower tang, replacement barrel-key and under-barrel ramrod (one thimble loose but present)
