circa 1846-47 and probably built to design covered by the patent 10677 of 1845, with browned 26 1/2in. barrels, the top rib signed 'CHAS. JAS. SMITH'S PATENT CONTINUOUS SELF PRIMING GUN, 61 KING WILLIAM ST, LONDON CITY', bead fore-sight, full scroll engraved breech-end with twin gold-lines, the scroll engraving extending along the top-rib, patent rotating 'collection-drums' connected to the hammers by serpentine scroll engraved bars, full scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'CHAS. J. SMITH' above an engraved vignette of game-birds, removable spring-loaded priming-pill magazines in scroll engraved housings behind the hammers, specially formed scroll engraved hammers with patent noses, figured walnut half-stock, chequered at the wrist, with blued iron furniture including heel-plate with scroll and game-scene engraved long top-spur, scroll engraved trigger-guard tang with game-scene engraving to the bow, engraved pineapple finial and ramrod throat, roll-ended under-barrel ramrod thimble and original brass-mounted ebony ramrod, the whole retaining fair traces of original finish and colour COMPLETE WITH its original mahogany gun-case with flush-fitting brass circular handle to lid, original trade-label to inner lid, compartmented and lined in green baize and including a number of isolated accessories
