circa 1900, with 16in. single edged blade, false edged for the last 4 1/4in. and with a carved 'horimono' of an oriental dragon to the left hand side of blade with three naive Japanese characters engraved to the right, plain rounded wood hilt with brass ferrule to the front and pierced white-metal ferrule over ray-skin to the rear of grip, the pommel formed from a ivory ball inlet with carved insects formed from mother-of pearl, malachite and other semi-precious materials in 'shibayama' style COMPLETE WITH its plain wood scabbard with florally engraved brass locket and plain brass ferrule
