circa 1860, with Metford rifled 36in. barrel, the muzzle with provision for a ball-starter (provided), missing fore and rear-sights, the short sighting rib at breech signed 'METFORD'S PATENT 898', the barrel signed 'GEORGE GIBBS 29 CORN STREET BRISTOL', the top-tang with base for peep-sight (ladder absent), plain bar-action lock signed 'GEORGE GIBBS', chequered walnut half-stock modified with inlets to a full pistol grip, the comb shaved for back-position target shooting and a 'Silvers' recoil pad fitted (badly perished), chequered trigger-blade and including a separate ramrod
