A 12-BORE SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 13637,
29 7/8in. nitro reproved chopperlump barrels (blued finish removed, rib inscription indistinct), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/2 choke, right bore diameter marginal and wall thickness below recommended minimum, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, removable striker discs, arrow cocking-indicators, fine acanthus scroll and floral bouquet engraving, triggerplate initialled 'T.F.A.', the fences carved in relief with stylised floral motifs on a stippled background, brushed finish overall, 14 5/8in. figured stock (broken through and repaired at hand, triggerguard tang with some damage) including 3/4in. rubber recoil pad (slight damage at toe), weight 6lb. 12oz.

He details the history of the gun as follows:

Built for Lt. Col. WN STEWART, DSO, TD [k. 23rd March 1918 , Somme, by sniper at midnight]
Passed to his brother Lt. Col. Patrick Stewart, DSO;
Then to third brother Brig. Gen. Ian Stewart, CMG, DSO;
Then to his son (my father) Lt. Col. DN Stewart, DSO, MC & bar, who gifted to RDS on 21st birthday 1966
