A .450 (No2 MUSKET) SINGLE-SHOT SERVICE-CARBINE SIGNED 'WITTEN', MODEL 'MARTINI CAVALRY CARBINE', no visible serial number,
dated for 1879 and produced in Belgium, with 23in. reblued barrel, blade fore-sight with side-protectors, elevating ladder rear-sight, slab-sided receiver, the left hand side stamped with a crowned circular trademark with 'WITTEN' and the date (repeated on the left hand side of butt), plain walnut butt-stock with iron heel-plate and reinforced swivel mounted to the rear end of comb, full-length walnut fore-end with British Cavalry Carbine style iron nose-cap and clearing rod, brushed bright barrel-bands, trigger-guard and under-lever, the remainder refinished throughout
