HENSHAW, LONDON
A SCARCE 8-BORE FLINTLOCK BRASS-BARRELLED BLUNDERBUSS MUSKETOON, MODEL 'EAST INDIA COMPANY CONTRACT', no visible serial number,
dated for 1779, with heavy two-stage 22 1/4in. brass barrel with substantial banded cannon muzzle, the top-flat at breech marked 'HENSHAW 1779' together with the heart-shaped 'E.I.C.Co.' trademark, square ended iron top-tang, radiused iron lock signed 'HENSHAW' and with the 'E.I.C.Co.' trademark and date repeated to the tail, heavy walnut handrail full-stock with exposed muzzle (small cracks behind top-tang, heavily bruised), carved apron, substantial brass furniture, the fore-end bored through for a mount and working replacement ebony ramrod.
Other Notes: William Henshaw opened his doors for business in 1763 at 181 Strand, London becoming contractor to the East India Company in 1772.
