circa 1865, with 26in. barrel marked 'WHITWORTH RIFLING, 450 BORE', block and blade fore-sight, ladder rear-sight with elevator, squared-off raised breech-section, plain flat lock signed 'ENFIELD' beneath a Victoria crown at the tail and marked 'R. HUGHES PATENT' forwards of the hammer, military style wood three-quarter stock with brass furniture, fully chequered at the wrist and around the top-tang, the right hand side of butt stamped 'ROBT. HUGHES BIRMINGHAM' around 'UNIVERSAL FIRE ARMS WORKS', one iron barrel-band and brass-tipped iron ramrod, much finish remaining
