TRANTER FOR W. POWELL & SON
A 120-BORE PERCUSSION FIVE-SHOT POCKET-REVOLVER, MODEL 'TRANTER'S PATENT, serial no. 8570T,
circa 1856, with octagonal 3 1/2in. barrel scroll engraved at both the muzzle and breech, border engraved top-strap signed 'W. POWELL & SON', plain London proved cylinder with scroll engraving over each chamber and with carved rope-twist band near leading edge, fully borderline and scroll engraved solid frame marked 'W. TRANTER PATENT' in an oval on the left side and with swinging chamber-lock safe on the right, finely chequered walnut saw-handled butt, fully engraved domed butt-cap and articulated rammer to the left side of barrel, strong traces of original blued finish remaining, overall length 9 1/4in., weight approximately 1 1/8lbs.
