A .450 (No.2) FALLING-BLOCK PRIZE-RIFLE, MODEL 'DEELEY-EDGE METFORD', serial no. 639,
circa 1882, with 33in. blued round barrel with Metford rifling, block mounted blade foresight, broad ladder rear-sight with platinum line to the drift adjustable slider, blued slab-sided action marked 'DEELEY-EDGE-METFORD PATENT MILITARY RIFLE' on the left hand face and 'SOLE MANUFACTURERS WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. LIMITED LONDON & BIRMINGHAM' on the right, trigger guard forming the opening lever, trigger blade with in-built safe, walnut straight hand butt-stock, the right hand side of butt inlet with an oval silver plaque inscribed '4TH STAFF'D R. VOLR'S PRESENTED TO SERG'T JAS. NEWEY BY CAPT. R.F. MORSON, NOV. 27ND 1882', full-length walnut fore-end with clearing rod, two blued barrel-bands, the front with bayonet lug, retaining much original blued finish throughout, 50in. overall, weight 9lb. 8oz.
