A 12-BORE 1887 PATENT 'ROUND-ACTION' TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTOR, serial no. 5162,
for 1899, 29in. nitro bold damascus barrels (slightly loose on action), the rib engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63 PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH.', and '1' at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, some pitting, Dickson patent round-action incorporating patents 9399 and 10621 of 1887, use number 781, carved foliate fences, the toplever engraved '1', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork with the makers name in scrolling banners, brushed finish, 14 3/4in. figured stock (broken through and repaired at hand) including 3/4in. wooden extension, the fore-end wood inlaid '1' in white metal, weight 6lb 10oz.
Provenance: The gun is recorded with a date of sale of 13th October 1899 as No.1 of a pair of 29in. barrelled hammerless ejector guns, round-action patent use numbers 781 / 2
