circa 1861-62, with octagonal 7 1/4in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'BEALS PATENT SEPT. 14 1858, MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS ILION, N.Y.' (rubbed but legible), replacement fore-sight, concealed threads at barrel throat, sighting groove to the top-strap, solid iron frame, plain six-shot cylinder (some external pitting), single action mechanism with spurred hammer, smooth flared walnut grips with martial cartouche and hinged under-barrel rammer (catch replaced), brass trigger-guard, the iron surfaces lacking finish
