for 1873, 29 5/8in. black powder only damascus barrels, rib engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT. 67A. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.' (worn), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true and imp. cyl. choke, occasional pits and wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, Edwin Hodges patent treble-grip action, patent no. 251 of 1871, use number 178, action bridge inlaid with 'GRANT & HODGES PATENT 178' silver roundel, flats with 'E.C.H.' within a tower, carved percussion fences, sidelever, rebounding back-action locks with high-spurred hammers, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, brushed and reblued finish, 14in. figured stock (repaired crack at hand) with steel heel and toe plates, weight 6lb. 12oz., in its makers brass-cornered oak and leather case
