circa 1880, 26in. nitro reproved octagonal barrel (Parkerifled from .295 rook and Birmingham proofed in 1955), wave cut top flat, open sights with folding leaf sight with white metal inlaid sight lines and marked '50' and '100', block-mounted bead fore-sight with second dovetail insert in front, the sides of the barrel engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND ST. LONDON.' and '.295 SEMI SMOOTH BORE', Thomas patent barrel-locking action, modification of patent no. 3091 of 15th November 1871, with ornately carved percussion fence, slender toplever, side-mounted extractor bar with non-selective ejector, rebounding back-action lock, border and acanthus scroll engraving, the lockplate signed 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND', traces of colour-hardening, 14 5/8in. pistolgrip stock with engraved steel pistolgrip-cap, steel buttplate and mounted at the hand with a Lyman folding adjustable peepsight, Hackett snap fore-end with horn finial, weight 5lb. 8oz., in a modern canvas case
