for 1850, with round 7 1/2in. barrel, octagonal breech-section, the top signed 'ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY', nickel fore-sight, rear-sight notch to the hammer-nose, plain cylinder scrubbed of scene (indexing out of time), squared locking notches, open iron frame marked 'COLTS PATENT' (upside down), brass grip-straps and rounded trigger-guard, smooth walnut one-piece grip with traces of a martial cartouche and hinged under-barrel rammer, traces of finish, all matching numbers including wedge and in a later oak casing lined and compartmented in blue velvet with facsimile instruction label inside lid
