30in. nitro reproved fine damascus barrels, rib engraved 'W.R. PAPE. NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, action incorporating Pape patent thumblever, patent no. 1501 of 29th May 1866 and Pape patent cartridge extracting mechanism, patent no. 2488 of September 3rd 1867, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks with finely carved and engraved c-scroll hammers, fine feathered border engraving, the lockplates signed in blackletter script 'W.R. Pape', the underside engraved 'W.R. PAPE'S PATENT', re-finished triggerguard with traces of original Pape trademark, 14 1/4in. stock with brushed steel heel and toe plates, weight 6lb. 15oz., in a re-lined brass-cornered leather case with some accessories

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was made by Pape gunsmith 'Beadle' and that the gun was sold on the 6th August 1875 as one of three identical guns, No.s 2638, 2639 and 2640 to a Mr R. Thompson
