A RARE 22-BORE FLINTLOCK OVER-UNDER SPORTING RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1780, with octagonal 23in. slightly swamped barrels, the top-flat signed 'IOH LOBINGER IN WIENN', dove-tailed bead fore-sight situated within a scroll-engraved background, carved and engraved rear-sight with additional folding leaf, scroll engraving to the breech-end and top-tang, the bottom barrel with similar engraving but not fitted for sights, bevel-edged scroll engraved flat locks with lozenge pans; the right set higher than the left, engraved hammers and frizzens (some pitting), walnut full-stock deeply carved around the top-tang and forwards of and behind the raised cheek-piece, engraved brass rococo escutcheon to wrist, sliding patchbox to right hand side of butt with engraved brass mounts, engraved heel-plate, brass trigger-guard bow with wooden tang, integral thin walnut fore-end slats with engraved brass escutcheons for the three barrel-keys and wood ramrod mounted to the right hand side (loss to wood at right hand fore-end tip and forwards of left hand lock)
