A SCARCE 16mm NEEDLE-FIRE SINGLE-SHOT CARBINE, MODEL 'DREYSE 1874 NEEDLE-FIRE', serial no. 13324,
circa 1874-75, with 24in. barrel, blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with an folding leaf, octagonal receiver with bolt action opening, the right side signed 'F.V. DREYSE SOMMERDA, walnut three-quarter stock with iron furniture including barrel band, nose-cap and under-barrel iron clearing rod, all screw heads with matching numbers, exposed iron surfaces lightly stained, fitted with a period leather sling

Other Notes: This carbine is one of approximately 700 examples produced for the Grand Duchy of Baden. It was the last needlefire rifle ever to be adopted but remained in use with Baden customs up to 1903.
