circa 1865, with re-browned damascus 30in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'JOHN LYELL, ABERDEEN', white-metal fore-sight bead, scroll engraving to rib-end and starburst engraved around the pin apertures, border and scroll engraved rounded action-body and long top-tang, border and scroll engraved back-action locks signed 'JOHN LYELL', scroll engraved hammers with carved and moulded heads and counter-sunk screws, walnut butt-stock chequered at the wrist, borderline engraved iron heel-plate, border and scroll engraved furniture, engraved and carved swing under-lever and chequered walnut splinter fore-end with sunken barrel key wedge, iron surfaces brushed bright except where noted
