A SUBSTANTIAL 10-BORE FLINTLOCK BRASS-BARRELLED BLUNDERBUSS PISTOL SIGNED 'R.S.', no visible serial number,
English circa 1750 and probably by Richard Sinclair, London, with heavy triple-staged 7 3/4in. barrel (heavily cleaned with loss to detail and sharp edges), makers mark 'R.S' surmounted with a fleur de lys and London proofs at breech, traces of scroll engraving to the top and side flats, iron top-tang, plain bevel edged iron lock with pointed tail, walnut three-quarter stock with false figuring, apron with tear-drop terminal carved around top-tang, heavy borderline and scroll engraved brass butt-cap, brass tang and trigger-guard bow with pinched pillars, sideplate in the form of a coiled serpent, additional heavy brass barrel-band fitted in antiquity, provision for ramrod (missing), fore-end tip possibly cut back, loss to wood around lock
