A RARE .40-90 (BULLARD) LEVER-ACTION REPEATING RIFLE, MODEL '1886 LARGE FRAME', serial no. 381,
circa 1888, with special order blued octagonal 30in. barrel, the side of breech stamped 'BULLARD REPEATING ARMS COMPANY, SPRINGFIELD MASS. US. PAT AUG 16 1881', dove-tailed fore-sight (blade missing), elevating ladder rear-sight, stamped '40-90' to top of the slab-sided blued receiver, provision for a sliding dust-cover (missing), colour-hardened central hammer, walnut straight-hand butt-stock with crescent iron heel-plate, colour hardened under-lever with finger-loop, blued hinged loading gate to the underside of action, plain walnut fore-end, iron nose cap and full-length under-barrel magazine (some loss to finish), the remainder retaining fair amounts of original finish and colour
