A 12-BORE 'MODELE DE LUXE' HAND-DETACHABLE SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 27004,
for 1912, 28in. replacement nitro barrels (by the makers in 2001), the rib gold-inlaid '1' at the breech end amid art nouveau scrollwork, the breech ends of the tubes similarly engraved and with Holland details 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND BRUTON STREET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke; together with original 30in. nitro reproved barrels (in 1976), the rib gold-inlaid '1' at the breech end amid art nouveau scrollwork, the breech ends of the tubes similarly engraved and with Holland details 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, wall thicknesses at 18, treble-grip action with hidden third bite, toplever gold-inlaid '1' and engraved 'HOLLAND'S PATENT', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, Holland & Holland patent hand-detachable lockplates, patent no. 11319 of 25th May 1908, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, the fences carved in high relief with stylised dragons amid scrolling foliage, the action, lockplates and furniture deeply carved with bold scrolling acanthus interspersed with mythical beasts of various forms, the underside with a cartouche engraved 'MODELE DE LUXE' and twisted rope engraving to the beads, 15 1/4in. figured replacement stock including 7/8in. leather covered recoil pad, weight 6lb. 14oz. (new barrels) and 6lb. 11oz. (original barrels), in a leather case (provision for one set of barrels only)
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was originally completed for a Morier Stewart Esq. of Lincolnshire, in 1912
