Provenance: The lot is supplied with a copy of the first page of Chapter 8 from Don Masters' book 'THE HOUSE OF CHURCHILL' which makes reference to this gun having been made in 1934 for Rose Churchill (wife to Robert Churchill) and to her explicit specifications. The engraved 'rib' is mentioned - as is the fore-end which was to be 'short, narrow and u-shaped and was to have a hollow 'thumb spot''. It originally was made with a capped Prince of Wales pistolgrip stock. The unusual specification of the case too is mentioned (with the blue and nickel finish)

Other Notes: A silver hallmarked shooting medallion, the obverse with blue enamelled banners with '.THE.' 'GUN CLUB' and central relief engraved shooting sportsman, London marks for 1930 and 'T. & Co.' makers mark (likely for Toye & Co. (Masonic outfitters and Jewellers, Red Lion Square, London WC1), in a tobacco tin with 'Mrs Rose Churchill.' label to the front. The medal is likely to be connected with Robert Churchill's 'The Gun Club' at Crayford, Bexley. The Gun Club was a shooting ground with a fully functioning workshop and had been planned along the lines of a golf club, in Robert Churchill's words 'All stands are laid out in duplicate, therefore, a round of the traps may be taken exactly as a round of golf'
