A RARE .44-40 (WIN) LEVER-ACTION REPEATING-RIFLE, MODEL '1873 SPECIAL ORDER', serial no. 7555,
first model, manufactured 1875, with a scarce round 28in. barrel, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, buckhorn rear-sight, the top signed 'WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN, CT KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29 1866, OCTOBER 16 1860', plain receiver with sliding dust-cover operating on internal rails, top-tang marked 'MODEL 1873', chequered high-grade walnut straight hand butt-stock (cracked and repaired at hand), iron crescent butt-plate with central trap-door, chequered figured walnut fore-end, iron nose-cap and full-length magazine tube.

Other Notes: According to Madis in his book 'The Winchester Book' (first edition), Winchester produced less than 200 rifles with longer than the usual 24in. barrels of round profile.
