for 1989, 28in. nitro chopperlump barrels, the rib gold-inlaid 'J. PURDEY & SONS. LONDON. ENGLAND.' and '2', the breech ends carved with bold foliate detailing, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, self-opening action with removable striker discs, the toplever gold-inlaid '2', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, the fences carved in high relief with grape and vine motifs on a finely matted background, the action, lockplates and furniture finely engraved with bold scrolling acanthus and foliage with fine matting to the background and bordering exceptional game scene vignettes, the left lockplate with a covey of French partridge in flight, the right lockplate with a brace of mallard, the underside with a lone woodcock, all set in their naturalistic habitats and each lockplate signed 'P. COGGAN', the triggerguard engraved with a Tudor rose and gold-inlaid with the serial number, bright finish with colour-hardening to the face and flats, 14 1/2in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock with engraved steel pistolgrip-cap and steel heel and toe plates, the fore-end iron engraved en suite, weight 5lb. 15oz., with a leather slip
