circa 1850, with octagonal 7 1/8in. drop-down barrel, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, scroll engraved hinged breech swinging sideways for loading, the top marked 'J. HERMAN D BREVETE', internal nipple, squared scroll engraved boxlock action with dummy side-hammer for cocking, fluted walnut grip set trigger and spurred trigger-guard hinged for opening, strong traces of finish throughout
