30in. bold damascus nitro barrels with beaded bordering at the breech ends, ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2' and engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER 11 PANTON ST. HAYMARKET. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, carved fences, striker discs, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, H.A.A. Thorn patent 'Detachable Solid Bar Lock' sidelocks, patent no. 6413 of 14th March 1911, best bold acanthus scroll engraving, the sideplates with lock patent details around rear screws, retaining some colour-hardening and finish, gun No.1 with 14 3/4in. highly-figured stock, No.2 with 14 3/8in. highly-figured stock including 1/2in. wooden buttplate, fore-ends with grip-catch release levers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', weight 6lb. 15oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 12oz. (No.2), in their brass-cornered oak and leather case with some accessories, the lid outer marked 'A.C. CROPPER. TOLSON HALL. KENDAL'

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were made in the early 1920's (details for whom unclear) as "12b 30in. damascus barrels, top snap best hammerless ejectors / Charles Lancaster patent detachable locks / lever fore end / lever cockers". The records state that the guns passed into the ownership of Brig. H.L. Barstow in 1951.
