A CASED 12-BORE PINFIRE SNAP-ACTION SINGLE-BITE SELF HALF-COCKING HAMMER SHOTGUN, serial no. 6107,
circa 1865, with fine brown damascus 30in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'COGSWELL & HARRISON 223 & 224 STRAND, LONDON', bead fore-sight, carved bosses behind the pin apertures with rising rods operating off the under-lever pushing the hammers back to half-cock, border and scroll engraved back-action locks signed in banners 'COGSWELL & HARRISON', scroll engraved dolphin-headed hammers, walnut butt-stock chequered at the wrist, iron heel-plate, push-forward underlever with exposed spring in the lower action body, the scroll engraved action also marked within a banner 'HARRISON'S PATENT' and walnut chequered splinter fore-end with cross key fastener, together with a period leather-covered oak storage case lined in red baize, reproduction trade label inside lid and complete with two turnscrews, two sizers, a pewter oil bottle, a measure and sundry cleaning equipment
