A FINE 44-BORE BREECH-LOADING CAP-FIRED GALLERY-RIFLE, MODEL 'BERENGER'S PATENT', no visible serial number,
circa 1835, with octagonal to round ribbon-twist browned damascus 28 1/2in. micro-rifled barrel, bead fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, fully border and scroll engraved action body with faceted top and radiused under-side, the central section with circular horizontally rotating breech operated via a locking swing lever mounted below, the breech accepting a special cap and ball, border and scroll engraved long top-tang, concealed boxlock action with exposed cocking lever, chequered walnut semi pistol-grip butt-stock, carved cheek-piece and grip-end, iron moulded heel-plate (butt shortened and re-lengthened in antiquity), blued and engraved trigger-guard bow and walnut splinter fore-end, much original colour and finish throughout
